  13. has any influence on a verb's agreement with its subject. If the subject
  14. is singular and the object of the preposition between it and the verb is
  15. plural, the verb will be singular, agreeing with the subject, not the
  16. #object of the preposition.ïFor example, in ╖Your appetite for elaborate
  17. #╖desserts never ceases╗, the fact that ╖desserts╗, the object of the
  18. #preposition ╖for╗, is plural does not influence the relationship between
  19. #the subject and the verb.ïThe third person singular subject ╖appetite╗
  20. #requires a third person singular verb form, as in ╖ceases.ï╗The same
  21. applies if the subject is plural and the object of the preposition is
  22. singular: the verb will be plural, agreeing with the subject.ïFor ex-
  23. #ample, in ╖The chapters in the book seem too lengthy, ╗because book, ╗
  24. the object of the preposition in, is singular, it does not change the

  35. There are some exceptions to the rule about prepositions having no
  36. influence over subject-verb agreement.ïIf you have as a subject an

  38. not such an indefinite pronoun requires a singular or plural verb de-
  39. pends on the object of the preposition.ïFor example, if a sentence
  40. #begins with ╖none of the fences, ╗because ╖fences╗ is plural, ╖none ╗
  41. #becomes plural, requiring a plural verb form like ╖are╗, as in ╖å of
  42. #╖the fences are broken.ï╗On the other hand, if a sentence begins with
  43. #╖one of the basket, ╗because ╖basket╗ is the third person singular, ╖
  44. #╖none ╗becomes third person singular, and a third person singular verb
